Jerry Rogers

Chair of Plymouth Advanced Motorcyclists and a National Observer with IAM RoadSmart, with a lifelong passion for motorcycling. I lead a dedicated team of volunteers, helping riders boost their confidence, sharpen their skills, and enjoy the road safely. Through one-on-one advanced training, I provide guidance, feedback, and the occasional coffee break, always eager to connect with riders, whether you’re new to advanced riding or looking to take your journey further.

I passed my bike test in 1990. Following a 14 year gap I wanted to do some training so joined IAM Roadsmart / PAM, passing the Advanced Riding Test in 2023. Now a qualified National Observer, I thoroughly enjoy passing on the advanced riding skills to others and doing my bit towards the aims of Vision Zero South West.

I’ve been riding motorbikes on and off since the age of 16 and was based in London for a number of years where it was much easier to have a bike to get around on although it was a fairly hairy experience at times! I thankfully realised the importance of advanced motorcycle training after a 20 year break and joined the IAM in 2017.  I currently have three bikes, two road and a little off-roader on which I enjoy days out on the local green lanes. Since being a member of Plymouth Advanced Motorcyclists I’ve held a number of Committee positions and have also achieved my National Observer and Masters with Distinction qualifications. I really enjoy training and being part of such an active and friendly club.

A lifelong motorcyclist, passing my motorcycle test at 16 and since then have owned many different machines. I currently ride a BMW R1200RT and dabble in a little off road activity on a KTM 300 EXC. I enjoy all types of motorsport and am privileged to have ridden for a Blood Bike charity, which was made possible by undertaking my IAM course with PAM.

I have been riding motorcycles since primary school age, my first road bike was the legendary Yamaha FS1E. Since then I have had a multitude of bikes and have become a motorcycle instructor, blood biker, NEG marshal and a National Observer for Plymouth Advanced Motorcyclists.
